These performances have become a summer institution among Capetonians, so get there early. You can even go earlier and have a picnic. FNB WHISKY LIVE FESTIVAL

Introduced five years ago, this festival has quickly become the largest consumer whisky show in the world. It features more than 180 top brands, some of them new releases from Scotland, Ireland, the US, Canada and Wales.

DISCOVERY CAPE TOWN BIG WALK

Put on your walking shoes and work those calves for charity (all proceeds are donated to a selected organisation). The Big Walk is made up of 8 different routes. Timorous trundlers can opt for the 5km or 10km walks, while the fighting fit will get their lion's share of cardio from the double-digit routes.

FICKSBURG CHERRY FESTIVAL

One of the oldest festivals in South Africa - first held in 1969 - the Ficksburg Cherry Festival now attracts around 20 000 visitors to this small eastern Free State town every November. The scenery is magnificent, and the festival offers cherry and asparagus tastings, tours, picnics and music.
