NEXT JAMES BOND MOVIE TO BE SHOT IN SOUTH AFRICA At least half of the planned new James Bond 007 movie is due to be shot in South Africa. The movie was initially scheduled to be filmed in India, but government red tape has apparently resulted in the production being moved to South Africa. The as-yet-untitled 23rd Bond film will be the first action project for award winning director Sam Mendes, and is set for release in November 2012. More information

KIRSTENBOSCH ONE OF THE BEST PICNIC SITES IN THE WORLD SAYS NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC Something those who live in or love Cape Town already know has now been made official by none other than National Geographic which named South Africa's Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden as one of the world's best picnic spots. Kirstenbosch, which was established in 1913 to conserve and showcase the diverse flora of southern Africa, is widely celebrated as one of the great botanic gardens of the world. More information

SA HOLIDAY COSTS DROP IN UK REPORT South Africa has been ranked the 6th most cost-effective long-haul destination for British travellers, according to Post Office Travel Money's 2011 Long Haul Holiday Report. The report compares the cost of a basket of 10 items, including a bottle of beer, a cup of coffee and a three-course meal for two with wine, across 28 destinations. The total cost for the basket of goods in SA was just under 65€. South Africa fared particularly well in its pricing of the three-course meal, ranking in 3rd place.
