GREAT UNDERWATER MIGRATION If you happen to be on the east coast of South Africa during the winter months (June - July), check out the Sardine Run, hailed as one of nature's most spectacular events. It's an underwater version of the great annual migration of wildebeest in East Africa. Every year millions of sardines move to the warm waters of the Indian Ocean. Though they are clearly visible from shore, the most exciting way to experience the Sardine Run is out at sea where all the action takes place. >> Photos

BEST TIME TO GO ON SAFARI IN SOUTH AFRICA The best time to go on safari in South African National Parks is during the dry season, from May to November. This is winter when the temperatures can get a little chilly, but you won't burn in the sun on your morning drives. Most importantly, the wildlife congregates around waterholes and the grass is shorter. These are all factors that make it easier to spot wildlife. The dry season also means fewer mosquitoes, so there's less chance of catching malaria (About Africa Travel).
