South African Embassy was guest speaker at Miranda law firm

The South African Embassy was an invited speaker at Miranda Alliance, on the occasion of the 28th anniversary of the well-known Portuguese law firm. Mr Reed Mkhohliso, First Secretary, made a 30 minute presentation on the “Future of Africa: Developmental Integration in the Continent” to an audience of over 150 partners at Miranda’s headquarters in Lisbon.

The South African Embassy participated once again in Portugal Exportador 2015

 The South African Embassy participated in the 10th edition of Portugal Exportador 2015.

The Trade Section held pre-scheduled meetings with potential trade and investment partners in the areas metal, machinery & equipment, food products, agro-processing, textiles, engineering and consultancy.

Mr R Mkhohliso, First Secretary for Trade & Investment, was also one of the speakers the “Café Temático”, an informal presentation and discussion forum on South Africa which was organized by CCILSA, the Luso-South African Chamber of Commerce.

The South African Embassy was invited to be the guest speaker at ISCE conference

The South African Embassy was invited to be the guest speaker at ISCE conference “The importance of Tourism in the age of globalisation, particularly in the context of South Africa”.

 Mr R Mkhohliso, First Secretary, made a 40 minute presentation to an audience which was composed of tourism students and teachers in the main auditorium of ISCE Campus.  A power point presentation on South Africa as a tourism destination of choice and a SAT promotional video complemented Mr Mkhohliso’s presentation. The successful initiative was concluded with a Question& Answer session in which themes like the SA’s tourism offer for people with disabilities, safety concerns, SA’s national promotional strategies or the role of public and private sectors in tourism development were addressed.

Moda Africa 2015

The Mission sponsored the participation of two top South African designers, Craig Jacobs and Suzaan Heyns in the Moda Africa 2015 Eth(n)ic Fashion Show held on 18 and 19 July 2015 in Lisbon. MODA AFRICA 2015 was an intercultural event promoting sustainable fashion that is based on the principles of eco-design without forgetting the importance of tradition in affirming national identity. All but one designer was from Africa.

ART EXHIBITION AT CASA DA GUIA ON UNTIL 21 JUNE

As part of this year’s Africa Day celebrations, the South African Embassy had the pleasure to support the inauguration of an art exhibition by three talented Luso-South African sisters, Céu, Isaura and Zita. The event was held on 21 May at the Renato Rodyner Art Gallery, at Casa da Guia (Av. Nossa Sra. do Cabo, 101, Cascais).

Under the collective title, The Golden Era (A Era de Ouro), the three sisters presented their distinct influences and styles, which range from a clear African inspiration to impressive and enigmatic portraits. Congratulations Céu, Isaura and Zita on your fine works!

The art exhibition is on until 21 June 2015. Go see for yourselves!

SECOND VISIT TO SEIXAL’S JOSE AFONSO SECONDARY SCHOOL FOR TALK ON SOUTH AFRICA’S 20 YEARS OF FREEDOM

For the second year in a row, the Mission was invited to José Afonso High School, in Seixal, to give a special history class on South Africa, with special emphasis on the roots of apartheid, the struggle to achieve democracy and the legacy of Nelson Mandela. Students paid close attention throughout the hour-long presentation which introduced them to a part of world history that falls outside their usual school curriculum. We once again thank the students for their interest and history teacher Elisabete Leitão for this second invitation back to José Afonso!

Embassy celebrates 21 Years of Freedom

The South African Mission in Lisbon celebrated South Africa's 21 Years of Freedom with a lively reception on 28 April 2015. Saxophonist Otis paid tribute to South African music and set the mood for a very enjoyable and festive occasion.
