Thank you to everyone who supported the South African stand at the 2021 Diplomatic Bazaar on 26-27 November, at the Lisbon Congress Centre. We were happy to once again receive President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, the patron of the Bazaar, at our stand and to contribute to the worthy cause of raising funds for institutions that support cases of extreme poverty. Thank you to Prime Wine (www.prime-wine.pt), the GB Store (https://m.facebook.com/gbstore.cascais/?_rdr), Sogenave (www3.sogenave.pt) and Próvida (www.provida.pt) for their support in making the SA stand a great success and to Wanda Le Roux for her lovely baked goods!

The Embassy will continue to have wine, juices, biltong and crafts on sale at the Embassy until Friday, 17 December.

The Embassy is pleased to announce that South African tourism film, “The  Home of Humanity” won 2 prizes at the 2021 edition of the Art&Tur International Tourism Festival, that took place in the city of Aveiro from 26 to 29 October. The film  won 1st in the category of Culture and Heritage and a 2^nd prize in the category of Tourism Services.  The participants also had the opportunity to embark on a South African wine experience – which included Ceres juices and biltong - that was very well-received.  Political Counsellor, Carl Le Roux, addressed one of the panels with a presentation on South Africa’s Country Brand Strategy.  Thank you to South African Tourism for entering the film and for its support, and congratulations to the Art&Tur organizing team for another great festival!

In commemoration of International Nelson Mandela Day 2021, the Embassy received private donations from charitable Portuguese citizens and South Africans in Portugal for the Banco Alimentar food bank. The donations were handed over personally by Ambassador Gaoretelelwe, on 15 September 2021, to the President of the Banco Alimentar, Ms Isabel Jonet. The Ambassador wishes to thank everyone who donated and to congratulate Ms Jonet and her institution on the wonderful work done to help feed those in need.
